    As the ‘hydrological turn’ of literary and cultural studies mixes with traditional green environmentalism and less familiar materialist discourses, early modern studies is entering new waters. With special attention to non-oceanic spaces and non-canonical texts, Lowell Duckert's brilliant and imaginative study makes the case for engaged historicist ecocriticism. The book contains fifteen chapters clustered around theoretical, religious, and transatlantic approaches. In their introduction, editors Karen Raber and Thomas Hallock state their primary aim is to redress the long-standing, dual neglect of early modern writing within the field of ecocriticism, and ecocriticism within early modern studies.
